Our mission is to provide a good place to live in a nice community.
The Housing Authority of the City of New Bern is a public housing authority managing affordable apartments in the New Bern, North Carolina, area. Our housing developments offer clean and healthy living environments for reasonable rents scaled by income. We also have a number of community empowerment and enrichment programs available. Discover for yourself how public housing can be an excellent stepping stone towards moving into your own home.
Established in 1933, construction of housing projects began in 1939. From 1940 through 1953, 579 apartments were built, with additional construction continuing well into the 1950s. In 1979, we added another inventory of housing units specifically for seniors. Currently, the Housing Authority consists of two developments: Trent Court and the New Bern Towers. Each community has its own charm and distinct qualities. We welcome you to visit our communities and consider making your home with us.
From the Interim Executive Director
Tharesa Chadwick Lee
Interim Executive Director
Providing shelter for the citizens of our great city is a privilege that we do not take likely. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service by treating all our public housing residents with care, compassion, respect, and dignity. We commit to the same with our partners and stakeholders as we move forward in providing quality housing. The goal of providing, decent, safe, sanitary, and quality housing is always in front and we strive for excellence in this service. “It is hard to argue that housing is not a fundamental human need. Decent, affordable housing should be a basic right for everybody in this country. The reason is simple: without stable shelter, everything else falls apart.” Matthew Desmond
